"The Wii Fitters"
How is everyone's exercise program going? I don't think that I've met my goal this week but have tried to do some exercise because I read something once that impressed me. Every day that you stay in bed all day it takes 7 days after to catch up to the same strength level. Maybe some of you nurses out there knows if that is true. It makes sense because even after surgery in the hospital they get you out of bed and walking as soon as possible now. Many years ago I heard that women would stay in the hospital for two weeks after having a baby. Is that right?

I have at least been walking everyday. Also, found something else that I like to do and it is a great upper body workout as well as working your balance. I box! Not using a bag, my trainer friend at the gym where I work uses the pads that he wears on his hands and we go through it that way. It is really alot of fun and a great way to get rid of stress.
Another question. What is the Marie Osmond bikini photos that comes up at the top of this section? When you first click on the year and scroll down through the recent selections, there is like an ad for her photos, hotel reservations somewhere and a couple other things - have seen this before, on the computer - what is that all about? Does anyone else see it?
I can attest to that. I've had surgery and procedures done in this past year that required time off my feet. Really sets you back. All the foods you take in, no matter how few may as well just be glued to your thighs and rear end.
Well Aimee(stepdaughter)spent the weekend with her boyfriend and his family in Dallas,Tx. His mother is a master in yoga and took Aimee with her to a class. While everyone was doing these complicated headstands, poor Aimee although very thin and athletic...just flopped around she said. (She hit it off with all of them and had a good time just the same).
I think that she and I both learned something. She was trying to keep up with people far beyond her level, as have I.
I can't just walk 5 miles yet. 3 sure, but 5 and I will end up in bed for a day. Got to work up to it.
I have a theory about why women stayed in the hospital longer.
First of all, insurance companies were not looking as close to the profit lines. (Now they go too far the other extreme and in less than a day women are released)
Second of all, during those times prenatal care was not as good. There were more complications with deliveries.
Third, most men refused to help women and women's needs for help around the home when a baby was born just wasn't recognized as a legitmate concern in many marriages. I think the doctors just wanted the moms to get rest while they could get it.
I think they've got some nurses now in different areas of the country where families can camp out in hotels where nurses help the mom for a couple of weeks.
I know plenty of women who toughed it out without family to help (I was one of them because I lived so far away from my family).Yes it can be done, but it's not always the best thing for the mom, child or family.
I'm sure the relief society at LDS does it's share to help out new mothers. The rest of us in other denominations don't have such luck most of the time.
I think it's great when men stick around a week or so and help mom out. That's how it should be. Even if they are the breadwinner, short of being fired for doing it, it ought to happen more than it does. Priorities.
I'm late checking in because my computer had a virus. It's all better now. I have been trying to exercise, but can’t get in the pool very much these days. I’m having treatments (wrapping the leg) in preparation for surgery next week. Part of the treatments do include exercises, but not weight loss type exercises. So, I get in the pool when I can.
I'm having surgery next Tuesday (June 8) to have 2 masses taken off my leg. I've wanted this surgery for a long time, so I'm excited it's finally getting done. Yes, I'm a little anxious too. But I know everything will be ok. So, any prayers would be appreciated.
I won't be checking in for a while, but will be thinking of all of you and missing you. Keep up the good work!
